'I fear youngsters are being taught to despise us all'

A REFUGEE who fled to Scotland eight years ago has warned that young people are being groomed to hate migrants.

Personal banker Vongayi Mufara, 43, left her home country of Zimbabwe in 2017 with her two children after a military coup erupted.

The banker's home was stormed in the middle of the night by armed soldiers demanding she give details of some of the high-profile clients she worked with.

Fearing for her family's safety, the mum left Zimbabwe and managed to claim asylum in the UK arriving in Scotland in December 2017.

She faced a five-year wait before being granted refugee status and now works with a charity that supports women who are giving birth alone. Vongayi says Scotland has been a “welcoming” place to settle but now fears that could change with the rise in anti-migrant sentiment and protests taking place.
