SNP backs sector despite eco record
The industrial farmed salmon sector is under pressure over the scale of premature deaths
THE amount of taxpayers' cash handed to wealthy foreign-owned salmon multinationals has quadrupled in the last two years.
SNP ministers have provided around £5.5million to firms since 2021 despite the £lbillion-a-year industry raking in huge profits and facing pressure over its welfare and eco record.
Recipients include Canadians Cooke Aquaculture - which has been handed nearly £1 million since 2024-and Norwegian Mowi which last year lost its royal warrant amid animal welfare concerns.
