Alarm at rise in female homicides

THE number of female homicide victims in Scotland rose last year despite the overall total falling to a 50-year low.

Behind the headline-grabbing news that murders and killings were at their lowest since 1976, the number of women killed - mostly by men - rose to 15 in 2024-25 from 13 the year before.

At the same time, the number of men killed fell by 31 per cent from 44 to 30.

Last week Mompati Dodo Isaacs was jailed for at least 21 years for murdering his wife in a violent knife attack after accusing her of having an affair.
