THE 120th and final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park was postponed hours before kick-off because of the danger to fans caused by Storm Darragh.

THE LAST HURRAH HIT BY DARRAGH

The Safety Advisory Group - consisting of officials from Everton and Liverpool, Liverpool City Council and Merseyside Police - met early yesterday at the ground and called the game off.

They felt they had no option, with Met Office forecasters placing Merseyside under an amber weather warning and predicting winds up to 70mph.

Merseyside Police had issued a warning against all "nonessential" travel and the 245th Merseyside derby was due to kick-off just 90 minutes after the storm had peaked. The severe weather was already hitting the travel network and train operator Merseyrail reported disruption to services which would have carried many fans to Goodison.
