It's time to scrap ‘unjust BBC licence fee - report

THE "UNJUST" BBC licence fee is out of date and should be scrapped, a new report claims.

The latest attack on the £169.50 fee makes the case for changing the broadcaster into a subscription service like Netflix or Disney+.

Former Culture Secretary Sir John Whittingdale welcomed the report from the Defund the BBC campaign group, saying: "It is plain that the compulsory licence-fee model cannot be sustained for much longer and that we need to begin the debate now about the role of the BBC going forward and how best to fund it." The Government has pledged to consider funding options with the BBC's present Royal Charter period ending in December 2027.
