THE WORLD exhaled last night as India and Pakistan agreed to a full ceasefire, halting the most serious military escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbours in two decades.
But lingering warnings remained that the fundamental issues of contention between both countries were still unresolved.
News of the “full and immediate” ceasefire was announced by Donald Trump, who said the deal came after a night of intense US-mediated talks.
“After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE,” said the US President on Truth Social.
“Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence.”
The announcement came hours after Pakistan’s military warned that its top nuclear command body was preparing to meet a claim later denied by Pakistan’s defence minister.
