Emotional moment war hero was reunited with the children he saved

HE IS ONE of the heroes of the Holocaust, saving hundreds of children who fled the Nazis to safety in Britain before the Second World War.

The incredible story of Nicholas Winton was shared with the world on BBC's That's Life in 1988, when many of those he helped surprised him by reuniting on the show.

While instantly becoming one of TV's most poignant moments, host Esther Rantzen - who made the reunion possible - reveals the humble hero was in fact "haunted" by thoughts of the children he was unable to save.

Speaking exclusively to the Sunday Express, Esther, the show's producer and presenter, remained friends with Sir Nicholas until his death, aged 106, in 2015. She recalled: "When I congratulated him on having saved so many, he just said, 'Not enough'.
