Eddie got it right for his dad as best of British have gold in their sights

ACTOR Eddie Redmayne has revealed his father told him not to mess up the reboot of The Day Of The Jackal - as it was one of favourite movies.

The star says when growing up the classic 1973 film starring Edward Fox as the elite assassin was one of only three films on VHS tapes his family watched again and again, along with Pretty Woman and Dirty Dancing.

So despite the critical acclaim for his reboot, which has become Sky Atlantic's biggest original hit and has already been recommissioned for a second series, he was most worried about impressing his dad Richard and his mother Patricia.

Eddie, 42, said: "I grew up watching the original movie with Edward Fox, who is sort of ingenious. There was something just so elegant and old school and kind of analog about it, and yet it was the genre that I was completely into.
