Big surge in under-30s on benefits

MORE than 2,000 young adults sign on to Universal Credit every day — with the number of under-30s who are out of work and on the benefit now at 1.08 million.

This is 66,000 more than when Labour took office, analysis by the Centre for Social Justice shows.
The think-tank says the surge reflects a “deeper crisis” and points to worsening mental health among the age group and a greater dependency on sickness benefits.
