THE FAMILY of a 90-year-old dementia sufferer fear he has been overcharged thousands of pounds, as his smart meter has been faulty for a decade.
The meter in David's home in Surrey failed to automatically send regular readings since it was first installed.
Lydia Joseph fears her grandfather living alone since he was widowed in 2016- is owed as much as £7,000.
Supplier EDF maintained "all historic overpayments" had been addressed, after David was refunded £700.
Retired horticulturist David - whose surname is not being published to protect him from scammers - first noticed something was amiss when his monthly direct debit was "suddenly hiked up massively" from £70 to £260.
