£2.5bn defence cuts to hit jobs and hardware

THOUSANDS of military jobs may be axed and equipment ditched as commanders are forced to make £2.5billion in “workforce savings” by 2032, a new report has revealed.
The revelation comes as US President Joe Biden seeks Nato support to back his strong rhetoric against Putin, with Washington warning the Kremlin it cannot win in Ukraine.
Chancellor Jeremy Hunt pledged defence spending will remain at two per cent of GDP, though soaring inflationary pressures will see this value shrink.
While the intention to cut billions from an already stretched defence budget was made public by the Ministry of Defence in March, its report did not disclose details of where the cuts would be made.
