We need to use public transport more frequently

Stirling Observer

May 30, 2025

As Transport spokesperson for the Scottish Greens many constituents write to me about issues from bus services to train fares and road safety.

- Mark Ruskell

Freedom to travel affordably unlocks opportunities.

The free bus pass for Under 22s was a Green win that has hugely benefited young people and their families.

But it has also highlighted how poor so many privately run bus services are, especially in rural areas.

Last year McGill's were taken to task by the Traffic Commissioner due to their Stirling buses continually breaking down and even going on fire.

We have yet to see major improvements to services such as the X10 through Balfron and the 59 to Callander.

Public transport needs to be the first choice for commuters, leaving the car at home, or at a park and ride.

But for this to be viable, we need regular, affordable and safe public transport that we can rely on to get us out and safely home again.
