Concern over Future Trends for Scotland
Stirling Observer
|June 27, 2025
CLACKMANNANSHIRE AND DUNBLANE MSP
Last week, the Scottish Government published Future Trends for Scotland-a new analysis of the global and domestic forces likely to shape our nation over the next 10 to 20 years.
Drawing on expert insight and the voices of young Scots, the report outlines both the challenges and opportunities ahead—from climate change and conflict to breakthroughs in clean energy, Al, and life sciences.
Some of the trends are worrying. Rising inequality, budget pressures from an ageing population, threats to democracy, and the impact of climate change on our food and environment all demand urgent attention.
But there is also much to be hopeful about.
Scotland is making real progress in sectors like space technology and renewables, and we're seeing the potential of digital and scientific innovation to transform how we live, work and care for one another.
The challenge - and the opportunity - is to act with purpose now.
