Celebrating 40 years of supporting people
Stirling Observer
|June 20, 2025
People living with Parkinson’s gathered recently to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their local support group.
Members of the Stirling and Clackmannanshire Support Group marked the milestone with an afternoon tea at the Parkland Centre in Alva.
More than 50 people came together for tea, cake, and entertainment from local band 'The Jammers.
"The celebration was a huge success," said support group chairman Jim Clifford.
"Everyone enjoyed the tasty spread and joined in enthusiastically, singing along with the band. There were smiles in abundance! Thanks are due to our treasurer, Alexis McEwan, and the team of volunteers who worked so hard to bring it all together.
"We had current members along, past members, people from Parkinson’s UK, healthcare workers, Parkinson's nurses, and partners who are involved in providing activities in the local area."
Jim, who was diagnosed with the complex brain condition ten years ago, is a member of the Forth Valley Parkinson's Singing Group. They practice at Alva Academy and perform with pupils at the school.
