Welsh riders on mark at Ffos Las

South Wales Evening Post

October 29, 2025

BEN Jones and James Bowen kept the Welsh flag flying high at Ffos Las yesterday.

Both Welsh jockeys were on the scoresheet at the track's second jumps meeting of the autumn.

Jones began the day well, getting off the mark in the opener with the well-supported Kalkbrenner holding off the challenge of The Price of Peace, who was saddled by Pembrokeshire trainer Rebecca Curtis.

Bowen struck in the staying handicap chase courtesy of Holokea, who bagged a three-length success for his brother Mickey.

But perhaps the most eye-catching winner was Starzand. The five-year-old cost his connections a cool £230,000 in January and repaid a small fraction of that when winning on his previous trip to Ffos Las in the spring.

And he duly followed up on his first effort over obstacles, beating a field of promising youngsters in some style to reward punters who had backed him into 13-8 favouritism.

The next meeting at Ffos Las is the Countryside Raceday on Sunday, November 9.
