Old heads and young guns - just how will Tandy stamp his authority on first squad?
South Wales Evening Post
|October 14, 2025
STEVE Tandy will name his first Wales squad in a few weeks' time and it will be intriguing to see if there are any new faces included who perhaps were either too young or not flavour of the month under Warren Gatland.
Wing Tom Bowen
The new Wales head coach faces a daunting challenge in November with Argentina, Japan, New Zealand and world champions South Africa rocking up at the Principality Stadium.
Tandy attended three games at the weekend, present at the Scarlets' defeat to the Stormers on Friday night along with the Ospreys' victory over Zebre in Bridgend on Saturday and Cardiff's win against Connacht at the Arms Park.
The former Scotland defence coach only has a small pool of players to choose from, so the majority of the squad who figured last season are almost certainly going to remain in place.
But there is still room for some fresh faces to force themselves into the equation this autumn.
The 19-year-old has been outstanding for Cardiff so far this season, building on his breakthrough campaign.
Bowen became the youngest Cardiff player to score a hat-trick in the narrow defeat to Munster at Thomond Park last weekend, while he also crossed for a brace of tries in the victory over Connacht on Saturday night.
The Wales U20s speedster is currently the joint top try-scorer in the United Rugby Championship.
Bowen is blessed with electric pace, while he undoubtedly knows his way to the try line.
