Johns nets a treble to help Penclawdd set the early pace

WAUNARLWYDD Galaxy started their Swansea Senior League Premier Division campaign in fine form with a 5-2 win at a Clase side that have now failed to beat Waunarlwydd on the last five occasions.
-
Cian Jenkins opened the scoring for the visitors as early as the fifth minute before Sam Brown doubled the lead in the 14th minute to make it 2-0.
Leo Richards pulled a goal back for Clase but Sam Brown's second goal of the game in the 41st minute made it 3-1 before he was taken off at half time.
Brandon Davies reduced Clase’s deficit the 47th minute and the match was in the balance until further goals from Jack Nicholson and Jenkins increased Waunarlwydd’s lead.
Waunarlwydd, winners of their own annual Summer Cup competition, are one of the favourites to win the Premier Division this season and will be tough opponents for the newly promoted Birchgrove Colts and Treboeth United who they face in the opening month of the season.
Blaenymaes are also among the favourites to win the division this season but despite going 1-0 up through a Karion Cole in the 23rd minute, three goals from hosts Murton Rovers including a Matty Rees penalty gave the visitors a mountain to climb.
Adam Gray’s goal on the stroke of halftime made it 3-2 and the introduction of new signing, Liam Scott from Fforestfach breathed fresh life into the Blaenymaes attack. Indeed it was Scott who scored in the 85th minute to give the visitors what seemed like an equaliser but in the 88th minute, George Heard’s winner sealed a 4-3 win for the Old Gold ahead of the trip to Plough Colts.
Colts have lost several key players this summer and did well to restrict last year's Open Cup winners Penclawdd to just one goal before the break, Theo Evans capitalising on great work form Ashley Johns in the 18th minute.
