Competitor who died during Ironman named

The athlete who died during this month's Ironman 70.3 in Swansea has been named.

A MAN who died while taking part in Ironman 70.3 in Swansea has been named.

Three days after the July 13 event, it was announced that a competitor had died after getting into difficulty during the competition.

He has now been named by the coroner as Sam Buchan, 31, from Scotland.

Swansea Ironman 70.3 is a triathlon event made up of 1.2 miles of swimming, a 56-mile bike ride, and a 13.1-mile run course. Thousands take part every year.

Ironman Wales said staff noticed the athlete "in difficulty" nearly halfway through the swimming part of the race, and went to help.

Mr Buchan was then taken to hospital but died three days later, on July 16.
