Community centre volunteer wins top award at ceremony

A SWANSEA volunteer has scooped a national honour at a top awards ceremony.

The African Community Centre's Mojisola Olateju was named Volunteer of the Year at this year’s Welsh Charity Awards at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, with team member David Uche Iyamu runner-up for Young Volunteer of the Year (volunteers aged 25 or under).

Volunteer Mojisola won for her dedicated volunteer work with several Swansea-based organisations, particularly supporting women from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds through transformative community initiatives.

Nominated by the African Community Centre, Mojisola runs women-only Zumba classes that support 40 women facing cultural barriers, coordinates a food bank serving over 500 families and provides weekly childcare enabling 50+ mothers to attend English classes.
