DIY giant B&Q has announced it is moving to a new store in Carmarthen with a new site planned to open next year just a mile from its existing base on the outskirts of town.

B&Q store set for relocation

B&Q has been in Carmarthen for decades with its current store located just off the A40 heading west towards St Clears.

The chain has more than 10 stores across south Wales having been founded in 1969 in Southampton by businessmen and DIY enthusiasts Richard Block and David Quayle before the company was bought by current owner Kingfisher plc in the 1980s.

B&Q has now confirmed it will relocate to Carmarthen’s Parc Pensarn in February 2026.

The move is down to the fact that the lease agreement at the current store expires in April 2026 so the company has moved early to secure a new home in the town in anticipation of the expiry date.

The company does not own the building of the existing store and the future of that site and what will occupy it is currently uncertain.
