Now, as he officially calls time on his playing career, he opens up to Soccer Laduma’s Delmain Faver in an emotional and honest conversation about closure, purpose, and peace. Buchanan also reflects on his journey, the sacrifices behind the success, the lessons learned, and the new chapter he begins as chairman and CEO.

Delmain Faver: Keagan, it hasn't even been a week since you retired from football. What has the response been?

Keagan Buchanan: I made the decision almost six months ago that I wasn't going to play anymore. I've been actively planning what I'm going to do after football. I wasn't going to announce my retirement; I was just going to go about things. But I spoke to Bongani Khumalo, and he said to me, “You know what, Keagan, you need to own your narrative. You didn’t announce that you weren't going to play anymore, so people may not know that for the last six months to a year, you haven't really wanted to play.” I know my body can still do it but given where I am in my life this past year, playing this season didn’t really make sense. Realistically, in this league, once you turn 30, they think you're not good enough. It’s just a reality. Or they don’t think you're worth the money that comes with your experience.

DF: What do you mean by that?
