Timely advice as the cold weather sweeps across UK

With temperatures beginning to drop across the UK as we start to head closer to the wintery season, leading veterinary charity PDSA is calling on owners to take extra precautions to keep their pets warm and safe.

PDSA's top cold weather pet tips:

Provide a warm, draught-free spot for a comfy bed, raised off the ground.

Ensure constant access to shelter and warmth.

Use toys and playtime to keep pets mentally and physically active indoors.

Take precautions near ice and frozen water.

Keep pets safe from antifreeze, grit, toxic plants and other unsafe hazards.

It's important for owners to be able to spot hypothermia early, as it can become life-threatening. Watch for shivering (which may stop in really severe hypothermia), drowsiness or confusion, pale or bluish gums, weakness, collapse, or unconsciousness.
