Retirement apartments plans for the site of former St Clare's Hospice

Plans to build a series of retirement homes on the site of the former St Clare's Hospice in South Tyneside have been submitted to council development bosses.
The former St Clare's Hospice site on Primrose Terrace, Jarrow.
McCarthy and Stone (Retirement Lifestyles) Limited is seeking permission to demolish the existing building and to create 51 'retirement apartments on the site in Primrose Avenue, in Jarrow.
The site has been unused since the charity that ran the hospice collapsed into insolvency in early 2019.
The proposal is to build 15 two-bed apartments and 36 one-bed apartments in a three-storey block, and developers, with as a flat roof to "minimise the overall height of the building".
The development would also provide 20 car parking spaces would also be provided on site, electric vehicle charging points, a residents' garden and a mobility buggy store.
