Youngsters with educational support needs in South Tyneside are to get more than £2million worth of extra help, an MP says.

- by Tom Patterson

Jarrow and Gateshead East MP Kate Osborne says schools in her constituency will receive £2.6million to pay for new specialist places to support youngsters with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

The cash is part of a £3billion national investment by the Government aimed at giving more pupils SEND support in mainstream schools.

Ms Osborne said: "I am pleased to have secured £2.6million in funding for local SEND services in the area.

"After lobbying ministers for investment in local SEND provision, Labour is unlocking the money that was put to one side.

"And I'm asking South Tyneside Council to make sure it is used to the benefit of families in Jarrow and Gateshead East."

She added: "That will mean we get more investment into SEND and more specialist places more quickly.
