Killer makes bid for freedom with fresh legal fight

CONVICTED murderer Luke Mitchell could be freed this month as he prepares to face a parole board - and as his mother penned a letter begging the public for cash to fund a new legal case.

Corinne Mitchell wrote the appeal as part of a fresh campaign to have her son's conviction overturned, believing he is innocent of murdering schoolgirl Jodi Jones in 2003.

The campaign appeal claimed the group has secured a “brand new, top tier” legal team to fight his conviction.

Mitchell lost his legal appeal at Scotland's highest court against the parole board over its decision not to release him from prison in February.
