What's the beef? Nats' red meat crackdown

THE Scottish Government wants Scots to stop eating so much red meat in a bid to save the environment.

It wants to reduce the intake to an average of 70g of red and red processed meat a day, which is the same as two thick rashers of bacon, one and a half sausages, half a burger patty, a third of a typical 8oz sirloin steak, five tablespoons of cooked mince or five slices of thin ham.

SNP Ministers include this detail in their draft environmental plan which was published yesterday and is a map to help Scotland get to net zero by 2045. The ambitious target will mean a big change in lifestyles, with petrol and diesel cars also being targeted to get off the road.
