"I can't sugarcoat it. I'm not going to pretend it's where it needs to be.

"We've got to do better at putting those messages on the pitch and perform better. Simple as that."

Rohi's side have scored just 11 goals in his nine games in charge and that dismal return has heaped pressure on summer signings such as Youssef Chermiti, Bojan Miovski and Thelo Aasgaard.

Butland, however, insists the squad must take responsibility for the lack of attacking threat.

"It's a team thing," he said. "It's about everybody helping each other a bit more. Let the shackles off and just play a bit more. A bit more freedom.

"We have to help get these players into positions where we know they can be difference-makers. With this manager, I believe we're on our way to doing that.

"I hope it will click. I believe that there's the ability there. We've seen it, but we need to see it more often.

"That's on all of us helping each other out at both ends of the park, making our lives a lot easier than perhaps we're doing at the moment."
