Shearer and Peter Beardsley

Wallsend's where it all started for Elliot

ELLIOT ANDERSON is on the cusp of walking in the footsteps of some giants of English football.

But he wants to go one better than Paul Gascoigne & Co by helping the Three Lions conquer the world.

Anderson is hoping to become the latest product of Newcastle’s “Wallsend Boys Club” to make his England debut when Thomas Tuchel’s men take on Andorra tomorrow.

In doing so, he would join a list which includes legends such as Gazza, Alan Shearer and Peter Beardsley, who all came off the Wallsend production line to reach the top of the game.

But none of the above went on to win a World Cup with the Three Lions.

And, having helped England Under-21s win the Euros this summer, Anderson admits he has a taste for success and wants to go on and land the biggest trophy of all.
