Ultra faces jail after injuring player with stadium seat

A FOOTBALL ultra has admitted to leaving one of his own players scarred for life by hurling a broken stadium seat that struck him on the head.

David Gowans left Aberdeen left back Jack MacKenzie disfigured following the Tannadice incident, yet the thug later tried to blame other members of the club's ultras group.

Dundee Sheriff Court was yesterday shown CCTV footage and images of the player being struck before crumpling to the ground covered in blood.

MacKenzie, 25, suffered a deep wound above his left eye which required five stitches.

The 31-year-old one of the ultras' leaders who liaised with Aberdeen over tickets - admitted acting in a culpable and reckless manner during the game against Dundee United on Saturday, May 17, which the home side won 2-1. He also pleaded guilty to causing severe injury and permanent disfigurement to the player.
