Trans row nurse's bombshell claim as she launches new legal bid

SANDIE PEGGIE has launched fresh legal action against NHS Fife, including the bombshell claim that the health board is still refusing to guarantee single-sex spaces.

The veteran nurse is awaiting the decision in her first employment tribunal against her employers, which is due before the end of the year.

She is citing harassment after she was suspended from work for confronting a biologically male medic, Dr Beth Upton, in the female changing rooms.

Dr Upton has also been named as a defendant in the case, which has captured attention worldwide.

Now Ms Peggie has lodged further legal proceedings, where she suggests that NHS Fife is not following the law by offering single-sex spaces.

A landmark decision was made by the Supreme Court which found that for the purposes of the Equality Act 2010, the term "sex" refers to biological sex rather than acquired gender.

It has forced public bodies to rip up gender self-identification policies, which effectively allowed people to choose which facilities they used.

Margaret Gribbon, Ms Peggie's solicitor, yesterday said three further legal claims have been submitted against NHS Fife, its outgoing chief executive Carol Potter and HR boss David Miller.
