Son's plea for Scots officer killed on duty

THE family of a Scots police officer murdered more than 40 years ago is calling on the UK Government to formally recognise his bravery.

Detective Sergeant Ross Hunt was killed in a "frenzied attack" by several members of the same family. He suffered a severe beating in which he was pinned to the ground, beaten with poles and stabbed repeatedly in June 1983.

Ever since, his family has tried to have his bravery honoured posthumously. However, a five-year time bar has meant that, so far, their request has been declined.
