SNP and Labour's 'hostility' to blame as refinery ceases

THE SNP and Labour's “hostility to oil and gas” was blamed after the Grangemouth refinery ceased production after 100 years.

In September, owner Petroineos said refining activities would cease in 2025 as the site transitions to become an import terminal for finished fuels.

Hundreds of workers have taken voluntary redundancy in recent months, while a number of compulsory redundancies have also been made.

The UK and Scottish governments have drawn up a masterplan to transition the site into low-carbon energy, although it would require around £3.5billion of private investment.
