Smart way to avoid a higher heating bill
Scottish Daily Express
|June 26, 2025
HOUSEHOLDS in Scotland have been urged to submit meter readings before the new lower Ofgem price cap comes into force, to avoid paying more than they have to.
Accurate readings will avoid being hit by an estimate based on the higher prices applicable before June 30.
The switch from £1,849 to a lower rate of £1,720 on July 1 represents a 7% drop (£122) on an annual bill, according to a charity.
To avoid being overcharged, Advice Direct Scotland reminds consumers to give readings before midnight on June 30. The charity also called for a “longer-term solution to the scourge of fuel poverty” — a UK-wide tariff to automatically place the most vulnerable on cheaper deals.
