Serving up victory for veterans

VETERANS had an extra reason to be cheerful at a Christmas bash - after toasting absent friends they raised a glass to mark a win over the government.

Veterans and guests tuck into the festive feast at Millwall FC

Proud survivors of the greatest generation helped the Daily Express secure a cast-iron commitment that the cost of their crucial annual overseas pilgrimages will be covered from official sources.

The victory means the Taxi Charity for Military Veterans, run by volunteer cabbies and funded by donations, can take Second World War heroes to the Continent to pay their respects to lost comrades.
