Eight inches could fall in the East and North

Snow joke... Winter weather is returning to the East and North of country

WINTER will return to Scotland with a vengeance today with up to eight inches of snow being whipped into drifts.

The Met Office says conditions will affect mainly eastern and northern parts until tomorrow afternoon.

Areas affected include Central, Tayside and Fife, Grampian region, Highlands and Islands, Orkney and Shetland as well as Argyll and Bute.

The yellow warning states: “Rain feeding into eastern and northern Scotland will increasingly fall as sleet and then snow through Tuesday and into Wednesday.

“By Wednesday, accumulations of up to an inch are expected above 100 metres with perhaps up to two inches in some places.

“For ground above 200 metres, accumulations of four inches are expected with some places locally seeing up to eight inches.”
