GUINNESS World Records is celebrating it's 70th anniversary by replaying some of its biggest hits — including giant people, giant dogs and a giant collection of Spice Girls memorabilia.

- By Tom Bevan

The first book, compiled in a room above a London gym, was published on August 27, 1955.

GWR has since authenticated thousands of records in sport, technology, the human body, collections and more. Among the best breakers is Manchester artist Liz West, who has been snapping up Spice Girls memorabilia since the band broke through in 1996 and holds the record for the largest haul of their gear.

Liz's record was approved in 2011, with a total of 2,066 pieces, but she now has around 5,000.

She said: “Being part of Guinness World Records 70th anniversary celebrations is wonderful. To be chosen amongst all the records ever made is incredibly touching - Girl Power!”

Brit Inventor Colin Furze, of Stamford, Lincs, holds records for the fastest pram - 53.46mph - and the fastest bumper car/dodgem, which topped 100mph.
