Ray Brooks, voice of Mr Benn, dies after dementia struggle aged 86

THE voice of TV’s Mr Benn has died aged 86. Ray Brooks was a regular face on TV, appearing in EastEnders and Coronation Street.

But he is probably best remembered for narrating 1970s children’s programme Mr Benn.

Brooks first came to prominence playing the male lead in 1960s BBC drama Cathy Come Home, directed by Ken Loach.

He also became one of the first actors to appear in both Coronation Street and EastEnders.
