Reported... Ryanair in investigation

The flight, en route from Pisa in Italy, was supposed to touch down at Prestwick International Airport. However, it was caught up in the near 100mph winds that accompanied the storm.

The cockpit crew of the Boeing 737-800 issued a so-called 7700 squawk code, which signals there is an emergency.

Flight FR3418, which was being operated by Malta Air on behalf of Ryanair, made several unsuccessful attempts to land at the airport in Ayrshire last Friday.
