Police 'threw grenade in error' during operation

Badreddin Abdalla Adam Bosh attacked his victims during a rampage at a Glasgow city centre hotel where he had been living.

Police who responded to the incident made a number of unsuccessful attempts to disarm him using non-lethal weapons before finally shooting him.

Three asylum seekers, two hotel workers and a police officer, David Whyte - who had responded to the emergency call — were injured by Bosh during the attack.

Officers had attempted to use non-lethal weapons to disarm Bosh during the incident before he was shot and killed.

The Crown Office investigated the matter and concluded the actions of police were proportionate, describing it as “absolutely necessary”.

The incident happened at the Park Inn on West George Street on June 26, 2020

Bosh, a 28-year-old Sudanese man, was one of hundreds of refugees moved from flats to hotels at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

A hearing into the death was told yesterday that firearms officers used the incorrect device during the incident.

The Fatal Accident Inquiry (FAI) probe was told yesterday that a smoke device was deployed when it should, in fact, have been a stun grenade.
