PM to 'back British brilliance' in face of Trump's tariffs
Scottish Daily Express
|April 07, 2025
KEIR Starmer is "determined to back British brilliance" as he today vows "bold changes" to rules on electric cars, following Donald Trump's tariffs.
The Prime Minister pledged to help "ensure homegrown firms can export British cars" as officials announced special support measures.
Sir Keir also said a global shake-up is forcing the Government to go "further and faster" on the economy.
Companies are grappling with President Trump slapping a 25% tariff on cars imported into the US, while other UK products face a 10% levy.
EU nations are looking at a 20% rise.
Jaguar Land Rover has already said it will "pause" shipments to the US as it tackles the "new trading terms".
Sir Keir said "global trade is being transformed" and firms need "a government that steps up...that means action, not words". The PM said he was "announcing bold changes [to] help ensure homegrown firms can export British cars".
