Pensioner held 31 years after the murder of student Shona

67-year-old man is questioned over killing in woods

A PENSIONER has been arrested in connection with one of Scotland’s longest-running unsolved murder cases.

Shona Stevens was discovered with severe head injuries on a footpath in Ayrshire in November 1994.

Despite the best efforts of medics, the 31-year-old mother died three days later in hospital.

Her killing prompted a huge police investigation with hundreds of witness statements taken and numerous appeals down the years.

Until yesterday no one had been detained in connection with Ms Stevens’ murder.

But now a 67-year-old man is being questioned over the killing.
