Free speech group fears fans will be silenced

SNP MINISTERS have become embroiled in a free speech row over plans to ban supporters from football matches if they take part in “banter” or “insulting words”.

And fans with gender-critical opinions also fear that they may be locked out of stadiums if they are reported for having those legally protected views.

The Scottish Government is looking at revamping its football banning orders currently handed out for those who commit violence or take part in disorder at or around games.

It is the first time in nearly two decades that the punishment is being renewed. But fears have been raised the legislation could be weaponised to silence fans with certain views.
