MSP suspended after ‘indecent images’ arrest

A SCOTTISH Labour MSP has been suspended by the party after he was arrested and charged over an allegation of possession of indecent images.
South Scotland MSP Colin Smyth was arrested earlier this month and was released to appear at Dumfries Sheriff Court at a later date.
The 52-year-old politician is now listed as an independent on the Scottish Parliament website and party bosses confirmed the removal of the whip.
A former Labour councillor in Dumfries, he was elected as an MSP in 2016 on the South Scotland regional list.
He served as the party’s transport spokesman between 2017 and 2021.
