MP demands probe into penguin basement

A BASEMENT enclosure where penguins are kept without access to fresh air or daylight at the London Aquarium should be the subject of an independent assessment, an MP has said.

David Taylor has written to Fiona Eastwood, head of the tourist attraction’s parent company Merlin Entertainment, following protests outside the attraction in Central London last month.

The Express has led a crusade alongside campaign groups Freedom for Animals and Born Free to free the gentoos.

Some 25 cross-party MPs, dozens of animal welfare groups and celebrities have backed calls for them to be moved.
