THE UK Government vowed to help build new nuclear plants in Scotland if Scottish Labour wins the next Holyrood election and it includes potential new uses for Torness and Hunterston.

Net Zero Secretary Ed Miliband is pushing for new nuclear reactors to be built north of the Border.

It puts him on a collision course with the SNP, with the party's antinuclear stance being blamed for potentially missing out on billions of investment.

Instead, the Nats are hoping that increasing renewables capabilities, through building more wind farms and solar panels, will be able to cover the loss of fossil fuels.
