Dad of three due in court today
A BUSINESSMAN and father of three is due in court this morning accused of ploughing into Liverpool fans at the Premier League Trophy parade.
Paul Desmond Sanders Doyle, 53, an IT professional who previously owned two sportswear firms, was arrested following the carnage on Water Street, in Liverpool city centre, just after 6pm on Monday.
A total of 79 fans aged nine to 78 were injured when a Ford Galaxy car shot through a roadblock tailgating an ambulance and into the crowd — with seven still remaining stable in hospital.
Married Doyle, of West Derby, Liverpool, now faces charges including grievous bodily harm, attempted GBH and wounding with intent in relation to six of the most seriously injured fans, as well as dangerous driving.
One wounding with intent charge relates to a child, and one of the attempted GBH charges is in relation to a different child.
Doyle is due before Liverpool magistrates this morning and the Daily Express understands he will be sent in the afternoon to the city’s crown court due to the serious nature of the alleged offences.
Merseyside Police Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims said yesterday: “Doyle has been remanded into custody and will appear at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court in the morning.
“I fully understand how this incident has left us all shocked and saddened, and I know many will continue to have concerns and questions.
