Probe ‘falling apart’ days after Bracadale’s exit

FIVE lawyers on the Sheku Bayoh inquiry have resigned following the departure of Lord Bracadale as chairman, plunging the probe into fresh chaos.

Angela Grahame KC, Laura Thomson KC and Jason Beer KC were senior counsel to the inquiry, with Rachel Barrett and Sarah Loosemore acting as junior counsel.

Lord Bracadale, one of Scotland’s most experienced judges, stepped down on Tuesday ahead of a judicial review of his position brought by the Scottish Police Federation (SPF). It followed the revelation that he held at least five private meetings with the Bayoh family.

The meetings only came to light earlier this year following questions from Police Scotland Chief Constable Jo Farrell. Mr Bayoh, 31, died in Kirkcaldy in 2015 after he was restrained by some six police officers.
