Landslip derailment is big wake-up call

AN MP has described a train crash which has led to major travel disruption for thousands of passengers as a “massive wake-up” for the authorities.

The Glasgow to London Euston service was derailed early on Monday morning as it travelled through Cumbria at 80mph.

It is believed the 04.28 Avanti service hit a landslide caused by heavy and continuous rain.

Despite the severity of the impact, only four of the near 90 people on board were injured and none seriously.

But yesterday, the local MP demanded answers about how the accident had occurred in the first place, Tim Farron, the Liberal Democrat MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale, said it was not the first time something like this had happened in his constituency.
