Year 5 pupils recall crash

- By Stephen Beech

'I just remember climbing up the hill to get back on the road'

A BOY who survived a school bus crash that killed his classmate says he only remembers "climbing up the hill to get back on the road".

Jayden was on the coach as it overturned and slid down a steep slope in Exmoor on Thursday afternoon.

It was carrying 70 people, most of them Year Five pupils from Minehead Middle School in Somerset on an end-of-year trip to Exmoor Zoo.

Head teacher Laura Mackie, said: “It's just been horrific. The loss is unimaginable and we keep our student we've lost in our hearts.”

The boy who died was aged 10, police said yesterday. Twenty-one other people were hurt. Last night six children and three adults, including the bus driver, remained in hospital.

Jayden, who suffered a suspected broken collarbone, was yesterday among those placing flowers outside the school, which was closed. He said: “I’m all right, it just hurts.”

His mum Kim, who broke the news to him about his classmate’s death, said: “He has lost a friend.”
