Failing to make most of garden refuge

TWO in three people who have gardens are failing to make the most of them, it has been revealed.

While 83% of those asked say it is vital to have access to outdoor space all year, many rarely use it apart from in the summer, researchers found.

In the sunny months, 67% use their garden or other space almost daily but only 41% do so in spring, 32% in the autumn and just 16% in winter.

The results were unearthed in a survey of 1,000 adults with a garden or outdoor space, for gas supplier Calor.

Wellbeing

The poll found 72% say eating alfresco with friends boosts their wellbeing — gardening was cited by 41% and yoga or meditation by 24%.
